The Role of Exercise in Boosting Mental Clarity

Physical activity is good for the body, but it is also a huge mental boost! When you move, your brain releases endorphins that make you feel better, and can also improve memory and focus. So, if you are stuck on an assignment or having trouble concentrating, taking a walk or going to the gym can help clear your mind and get you back on track.

Exercise helps increase blood flow to the brain, giving you oxygen and nutrients that sharpen your thinking and help you be productive. So, next time you are feeling drained, try moving around, you’ll likely find yourself thinking more clearly!

  1. Well said Alyssa! After I do something good for my body, whether that's going to the gym, taking a walk outside, or going for a run I instantly feel better afterwards. Mentally and physically, it definitely helps clear my mind and makes me less stressed out. It also definitely gives me a boost to be more productive because it frees my mind as you said!

Nutrition Impacting Your Mood

The way we eat isn't just about keeping our bodies healthy, it also affects how we feel mentally. Eating things like fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats can actually help boost your mood and help you feel more balanced. The opposite happens when eating sugary or processed foods, these foods can lead to mood swings and even stress us out more. Making healthier food choices isn’t just good for your body, it’s a simple way to feel better mentally.  Foods that boost your mood: - Leafy Greens - like spinach and kale - Fatty Fish- like salmon and tuna - Nuts and Seeds  - Berries - Yogurt Foods that can make your mood worse: - Sugary Snacks - like cookies and candy - Processed foods - like fast food and packaged snacks - Refined Carbs - like white bread, pastries, and pasta  - Excess Caffeine

The Connection Between Mental and Physical Health

Your mental health and your physical health both can affect one another. If your mental health is down it can cause your physical health to be down and vise versa. It is important to care of both aspects of yourself, to help you grow and flourish.  If you are stressed or upset about anything in life, don't be hesitant to reach out. Whether it is talking to someone you trust, or seeking hep from a professional, taking that step can make a huge difference. While it may seem intimidating to ask for help, keeping those thoughts and feelings bottled up can worsen both your mental and physical health. Remember, your mental health matters just as much as your physical health!

Stress Management

Stress is something almost everyone faces these days. It is important to try and help manage your stress so it doesn't take a toll on your physical well-being.  The first stress management tip is to prevent unneeded stress. It is not possible to avoid all stresses, but you’d be amazed at how many stressors in your life you can reduce. Try to not overcommit, know your limits and tasks you have, so you do not take on more than you can do.   The second stress management tip is to adjust to the stressor. If you are unable to modify the stressor, then try and change yourself. You may adjust to difficult conditions and restore authority by altering your standards and mindset.  The third stress management tip is to acknowledge what you cannot control. Certain causes of stress are inevitable. A great way to deal with stress is to accept the reality as it is.
